Black & Decker LI3100 Cordless Screwdriver Review

Are you looking for a light-duty cordless screwdriver that fits in your hand comfortable, can store in your kitchen, and is great for around the house?

The Black & Decker LI3100 may be the driver for you!  Designed specifically for homeowners, this inexpensive, lightweight and handy driver can tackle many tasks including furniture assembly, small fix-it jobs and saves your wrist from all that turning!

Simple, inexpensive, but also lacking frills, the LI3100 may be just the cordless screwdriver you need!

Please note: Although I am reviewing this bestselling drill, I have no experience using it. Instead, I summarize all of the helpful reviews of this drill from the web, in a level-headed, unbiased manner. My goal is to do the hard research work for you, so you don’t have to. The Review

The Good:

  • Battery lasts for hours and holds its charge for up to 18 months.
  • Grip and comfortable and large enough for 3 fingers
  • Small enough to go in tight spaces too small for a full-sized drill.

The Bad:

  • Non-removable battery means you have to stop working when the tool runs out of juice!
  • Not a professional grade tool – if use push it too hard, it will break!

Reviewers of this cordless screwdriver really had a lot of good things to say – that is – as long as you keep the tool in the proper context.  As I mentioned above, it’s not a professional level cordless driver, and if you try to use it that way, you won’t be pleased.  A great professional model is the Makita FD01w, and it’ll stand up to anything you throw at it!

The LI-3100 is a perfect fit for somebody who sometimes needs a cordless screwdriver around the house to assemble/disassemble furniture, and to sink screws into wood and particle boards.  It’s certainly a light-duty model, but it comes at an incredibly low price – and that’s why we give it 3.5 stars!  Check it out on Amazon.

Ease Of Use and Feel:

If there’s one thing that reviewers really love about this cordless screwdriver, it’s the comfort grip.  Subtle finger cutouts in the rubber guide your hand into the perfect spot and balance the tool out nicely.  Both men and women report it’s comfort, so it fits a variety of hand sizes.

Users report that they could carry it around all day long and not get tired, so it’s a perfect companion to a cordless drill which would tire your arm out!

Durability:

If you’re looking for a highly durable tool, look elsewhere.  This is the one area that this tool really falls short of more expensively priced cordless screwdrivers.  However, if you need a around-the-house tool that you’ll be gentle with and not over-exert, this is the tool for you.

Special Features:

Being a fairly basic tool, the Black & Decker LI3100 only features my favorite LED worklight.  As we’ve mentioned before, you really can’t go wrong with an on-board worklight, and reviewers of this tool agree!

What Comes in the Box?

Target User:

This tool is definitely designed and best for the homeowner who needs occasional use out of a light-duty tool.  The non-removable battery also means that you need to stop working to recharge if the tool dies.

However, the tool does store well, and the stored battery will hold a charge for up to 18 months – perfect for stashing in your kitchen drawer to do little around the home repairs and tighten knobs!

Price:

For being a very inexpensive tool, the LI-3100 really delivers great value for the price.  Users are very happy with their purchase, making this LI-3100 Cordless Screwdriver with Integrated Battery

Black & Decker LDX220SBFC

Black & Decker LDX220SBFC Cordless Drill Review

The Review

Combining a fast charge with it’s lightweight design and LED worklight, the LDX220SBFC is an okay drill for the homeowner who just needs an occasional use out of their drill.  Many home users love this drill, but pro’s don’t and hobbyists straddle the middle.  Read on to see if this drill is right for you!

Please note: Although I am reviewing this bestselling drill, I have no experience using it. Instead, I summarize all of the helpful reviews of this drill from the web, in a level-headed, unbiased manner. My goal is to do the hard research work for you, so you don’t have to. Visit the about page to learn more!

Pros:

  • Fast charger completes a full charge in 40 minutes, getting you back to work.
  • Lithium Ion battery holds it’s charge for months without losing power, so it’s always ready to go
  • Perfect for small DIY projects around your house
  • Included storage bag is highly convenient

Cons:

  • No on-board level
  • Battery life is only about 35 minutes, so you’ll have to recharge often
  • Best for occasional use for short periods of time

Reviewers have a variety of different opinions when it comes the Black & Decker LDX220SBFC 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Drill/Driver with Fast Charger.  The bottom line is this – it’s a quality drill for you, if you just need to do basic repairs around your home or business, and aren’t launching into intense projects.

However, I’d have to recommend to you the Genesis GCD18BK.  It’s a very similar drill at a much lower price point and higher performance!

Overall Rating {rating}[divider_flat] [divider_flat]

Ease Of Use and Feel:

One area that the LDX220SBFC does excel is in the feel department.  The comfort grip is exceptionally comfortable for a power tool, and the drill feels very balanced with the lightweight battery attached.  Simple to use, this Black & Decker drill is a great first power tool for a homeowner or teenager looking to learn more about repairs and basic woodworking.

Special Features:

One area that this drill does excel is in the special features, as it has an on board worklight and bit holder – both essentials in my book!

Target User:

Black & Decker LDX220SBFCThis LDX220SBFC kit is designed especially for light-duty users.  Features like the lightweight body, LED worklight and really comfortable grip are big benefits for light-duty users.

Add to that a lightweight, lithium ion battery that doesn’t lose it’s charge over time, and you’ve got a perfect drill for a occasional home-owning user.

Professional and experienced home users, however, were not as satisfied with this drill.  Issues ranged from short battery life (around 35 minutes) to the chuck loosening easily as you drill.  It’s a cute, light-duty drill that is perfect for small, around the house repairs, but don’t expect the Black & Decker LDX220SBFC 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Drill/Driver with Fast Charger

I don’t really recommend this drill, because I think it’s overpriced for what you get.  The Genesis GCD18BK is a much better tool for a lower price.  Check it out here!

  • Model: LDX220SBFC
  • Brand: Black & Decker
  • Type: Pistol Grip Cordless Drill
  • Voltage: 20v
  • Battery Type: Lithium Ion

Black & Decker Matrix Drill

Black & Decker BDCDMT120 Matrix Cordless Drill Review

The Review

The Matrix drill by Black & Decker carries on a long line of interchangeable tool systems built by the company.  I remember 10 years ago when they had a system out called “Firestorm”, with very much the same concept.  So, they know what they’re doing, and that’s very evident to reviewers and owners of this drill system.

If you’re new to tool systems, they’re a great way to get a lot of bang for your buck!  Using a drill base as the body, different tools such as saws, impact drivers, sandersrouters and more can be attached.  It’s like owning all of the different tools, but the tool system takes up much less space and is less expensive!

Please note: Although I am reviewing this bestselling drill, I have no experience using it. Instead, I summarize all of the helpful reviews of this drill from the web, in a level-headed, unbiased manner. My goal is to do the hard research work for you, so you don’t have to. Pros:Black & Decker Matrix Drill

  • Versatile tool system allows you to have many tools for a small cost
  • Long battery life keeps you working all day
  • Comfortable to grip and lightweight to hold
  • Perfect for you if you’re homeowner or hobbyist

Cons:

  • 5-8 hour recharge time keeps you twiddling your thumbs
  • Only spins at 800 RPM maximum
  • Not a heavy duty drill

Reviewers of the Black & Decker BDCDMT120 Matrix drill really had a lot of good things to say about the drill, and were, for the most part, pleased.  Like any inexpensive drill, this one clocks in around $60 at the time of writing and is designed and aimed at homeowners.  This means that the Matrix drill doesn’t have professional-level features such as high speed, a 1/2″ chuck or heavy duty durability.

On the positive side of life, this drill comes highly rated by a number of home users and even some professional users.  One reviewer, a locksmith, stated that he keeps this drill system in his vehicle for quick homeowner drill-out jobs.  Other reviewers state that the drill as well as other attachments exceeded their expectations and work hard to make their projects get done!

Overall Rating {rating}[divider_flat]  [divider_flat]

Ease Of Use and Feel:

One of the top positives that users pointed out was just how good and balanced the Matrix drill feels in your hands.  Users noted both the weighting and the comfort grip to be excellent and exceeding their expectations.

Though the drill isn’t the most powerful you can set your hands on, reviewers felt that it was powerful enough for all of the home and hobby uses they had for it.

Special Features:

One thing that this drill is really lacking is an LED worklight.  As you may know, I am a big fan of these because they do make life much easier when drilling, but it is understandably impossible to put one on this drill system base.  The other attachments would block it, making is distracting and possibly unusable.

Other than that, the drill does feature a small bit holder on the base, and the most notable special feature is that fact that the tool can be interchanged into many types of tools.

Target User:

Black & Decker has specifically designed this tool for the casual homeowner.  It excels by offering a variety of tools in a small space for a very affordable cost.  In fact, some professional reviews even said that they keep a Matrix system bag around for simple repairs and quick jobs.

As we mentioned above, many reviewers noticed that you simply can’t use this drill system all day on one battery.  And you obviously can’t work with the drill, while your spouse or friend works with the saw or router.  For that reason, this drill isn’t designed for heavy use, which discouraged some reviewers who thought it would be up to the task.  Still, this drill is perfect for the casual user, and you can save a lot of money by buying it instead of the whole assortment of different tools!

DR260B Drill

Black & Decker DR260B 3/8-Inch 5.2 Amp Drill/Driver

The Review

Are you looking for a drill that’s perfect for around the house?

Need to do some furniture construction every once and awhile and not want to spend a ton of money on tools that you only use sometimes?

Enter the Black & Decker DR260B.  The drill for the occasional drill user.

I personally bought this drill 2 years ago, and I use it a ton and it’s still going strong to this day!

In the past 2 years, I’ve built furniture, drilled out rivets, and used it with some sanding drums.  No matter what task I threw at the DR260B, it’s completed it successfully.

For $25, you get a fully-functioning corded drill that can complete a ton of around-the-home projects, which is not a bad deal.

Pros:

  • The 260B is corded so you won’t run out of battery power
  • The keyless chuck makes it easy to change bits.
  • It comes with a nice soft storage bag and some inexpensive bits to get you started
  • It’s a good starter drill or backup for a cordless drill
  • 2 year limited warranty

Cons:

  • Feels cheap
  • The cord isn’t very long, so you may need to add an extension cord
  • The screwdriver bit included is too big for the on-board holder, it might poke you
  • Your bits may loosen in the chuck as you drill for extended periods of time

DR260B DrillBefore I get into too many details, I’ve got to address all of the bad reviews this drill gets.  There are a number of bad reviews for this product, and people who do not like it.  However, it’s very important to note that this is a $25 drill, and therefore is not going to perform like a $100 drill.

For that reason, it’s corded so you don’t have an expensive battery and charger, and it also feels cheap…because it is a very inexpensive drill!

As I mentioned at the top of the article, I do own this drill and it has been reliable for my around-the-home projects and tinkering for the past 2 years.  Because of it’s cheap plastic feel, I used to question whether or not it would be durable, but time has taught me that it is very durable indeed!

So yes, the chuck doesn’t do an incredible job and you must use an extension cord to run this drill.  The Dr260B is not perfect by any means, but it’s a great first drill and a good gift for someone who needs a basic corded drill.  I’d also suggest buying it as a second drill or a drill for your kids to learn on, and that’s why I give it 4 stars.

Overall Rating {rating}[divider_flat][divider_flat]

Ease Of Use and Feel:

As I and many other reviewers have noted, the DR260B feels cheap.  There’s no way around it.

From the casing plastic to the chuck and especially the forward/reverse switch, it’s a cheap drill.  It does have a comfort grip, which is a necessity in my book, but when you tilt the drill down you can feel how off balance it is as it is difficult to hold up straight.  So don’t throw it, drop it or carry it by it’s cord, and it’ll live a long life.

Other reviewers and I also noticed that this drill is not the most powerful thing out there.  So, if you’re looking to quickly drill through very thick wood, any metal or concrete, it’s going to be slow with this drill.  But, it’s a steal at $25!

If you’re expecting more than this out of your drill, you’re going to need to spend a little more money.  However, I’m gonna be extra transparent here, and let you know this- if I had to make this purchase again as a first drill, I’d buy the Genesis GCD18BK.  The only leg up this 260B has on the Genesis is the speed- it is 3x as fast , but the Genesis is all around better.

Special Features:

The DR260B is just about as basic as drills get.  It does have a bit holder, which is a great place to store a small screwdriver bit, but the one that comes with the drill is a little too long for the holder and is easy to scratch yourself with while you’re working.  I’ve seen many screwdriver bits that are a little smaller and would fit in the holder, so you can always buy one if you desire to keep one on board.

Target User:

The perfect user for this drill would be someone who is looking for a super-basic drill to do repetitive drilling, than this is your drill.  It excels in a workshop environment because it is stuck to the wall by it’s cord.  It’s also a great option if you already have a cordless drill and are just looking for a backup or secondary drill for your kids to learn on, etc.  There are a lot of tasks in woodworking that you could easily do standing at a workbench, and then you could use a corded drill like this instead of wearing down your cordless drill battery  – just a thought.

This is the perfect drill for you if you get frustrated by cordless drills always running out of battery power, and you don’t move around a ton of spend a lot of time on ladders.

Specifications:

  • Model: DR260B
  • Brand: Black & Decker
  • Type: Corded Pistol Grip
  • Voltage: 12v
  • Chuck Size: 3/8″ Keyless
  • Speed: 1500 RPM
  • Worklight: No
  • Weight: 3.8 lbs
